Vanessa Diaz, Bilingual Advocate
Vanessa's previous experience as mental health crisis line operator helped her form a solid foundation for advocacy work well before she joined the team at RCC. The highlight of her work is the diverse array of people she has the chance to encounter and serve.
In undergraduate school, Vanessa began learning about the realities and prevalence of Wisconsin sex trafficking. Her desire to be engaged in direct service work never ceased thereafter. Vanessa was referred to RCC employment by a friend who, like many she is close to, knew of her long-held determination to serve people impacted by sexual violence. Vanessa believes that each day provides us an opportunity to learn, and she challenges herself to do so. She brings this energy into her work, while grounding herself in her fundamental goal "to just make a positive impact." Outside of business hours, Vanessa recharges by spending quality time outdoors and with her family. She cares for herself with good books, time away from her phone, and mindful breathing. Humbled by how much she has yet to know, Vanessa looks always forward to broadening her understanding of sexual violence, and continuing her development as an advocate, each & every day.
