RCC’s GameChangers is a team of high school students from across Dane County who are committed to engaging in activism & advocacy, while educating themselves and our community on rape culture and other intersecting oppressions that affect survivors of sexual violence.

 GameChangers students serve as representatives of RCC and help inform how our Outreach & Education team engages with students we serve. They are an important part of RCC and we would love it if you applied to join us!

Applications for the 2024-2025 school year are now closed. Applications for the 2025-2026 school year will open in April 2025. If you are interested in the applying for the 2025-26 school year, please fill out the interest form below. Students who apply and complete an interview by the end of May can expect a response about acceptance by mid-June!

  • What is GameChangers?

    Each year, RCC selects high school students from across Dane County to act as their youth advisory board. GameChangers learn about rape culture and other systems of oppression and work together on community service projects to help change the culture around sexual violence.

  • Who Can Join?

    Current Dane County high school students who are: 

    - Passionate about social justice, collaboration, and community change

    - Excited to work with and connect with diverse peers

    - Able to communicate via email and attend both in-person and virtual meetings.

    - BIPOC, LGBTQ+ folks, and students of marginalized identities are especially encouraged to apply!

  • When & Where Do GameChangers Meet?

    GameChangers meet from September to early June. GameChangers attend two meetings each month: a virtual meeting on a weekday evening and an in-person meeting on a Saturday. GameChangers also spend time on independent assignments and work on projects outside of meeting time. Overall, GameChangers spend 8-10 hours working each month. Meals are provided at all in-person meetings and will accommodate any dietary restrictions.

GameChangers will learn about topics like: Student rights, Disability Justice, Racial & Cultural Historical Trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, and other societal systems

 

Examples of past projects include: SURVIVE. CREATE. EMPOWER Art Show, Dreaming Ourselves Zine, Supporting Student Survivors in Schools: A Workshop for High School Staff & Administration, Trans Advocacy RCC Resource Development.

GameChangers appointment is late September to the beginning of June (with opportunity for summer work). During school year, meetings are one weeknight a month 6-8:00pm over Zoom and once a month in-person at the WCASA office from 10:00am–2:00pm. (meal and snacks will be provided)

GameChangers may not miss more than 6 hours of meeting time. If you have concerns regarding your availability for meetings, you may contact the RCC.

  • $10/hour for 8-10 hours per month (5 hours from two meetings one zoom and one in-person and other hours come from outside meeting tasks like representing RCC at events, meeting with community partners, and administrative work related to our long term projects.)

  • $0.51/mile reimbursement for driving mileage to and from every meeting

  • Meals or snacks during each meeting

  • Childcare (if needed)
