Petrovnia Charles, Director of Mental Health Services

Since moving to Madison in 1995, Petrovnia (she/her) has centered community involvement & activism as a key focus in the work she does. Being raised by immigrant parents in NYC drives Petrovnia's passion when it comes to centering the importance of intersectionality both within herself and the clients she works with.

In 2007, she earned her MSW from UW School of Social Work and dedicated her time to walking alongside victims, survivors and thrivers on their healing journey. She is especially focused on working with those who have experienced chronic, ongoing exposure to stressful events, particularly in childhood, and is passionate about educating others about the impact of being exposed to chronic stress and/or trauma.

She is so appreciative to be part of such an amazing organization and team that's dedicated to ending sexual violence and all forms of oppression. When not at the office, you can find her spending time searching for the latest sudoku challenges or apps to challenge her ASL [American Sign Language] skills!
